Entrepreneurs Daryl van Arkel & Neil Clarence approach mapping companies TomTom & Navteq with the idea of commercialising POI data listings on maps used on PND’S like Garmin. Getting the greenlight from TomTom & Navteq, the pair work to secure brand’s buy-in.

Van Arkel & Clarence secure investment capital from 3rd founder Ryan Bakos to officially establish Business Positioning Systems (BPS), offering clients visibility on digital maps in navigation.

Google Maps launches in SA.

Gabriella Pitt – one of the first BPS hires (& now Commercial Director & shareholder) is tasked with adding client’s data to this new platform (shes now SA’s top Google Maps location-management expert).

BPS brings Navteq Location Point Advertising (the world’s first location-based ad network) to the SA market.

BPS wins exclusive rights to commercialise the Telmap navagation app, working with Wand Africa founder Charles Talbot.

BPS develops its own proprietary tech, pivoting from a service-based company to a tech company better equiped to manage location data at a global scale,

while protecting brand reputation at a local level.

BPS launches sister company Vicinity Media to take the lead on the growing digital advertising side of the business,

leaving BPS to focus on digital location management.

BPS opens a UK office to serve its growing number of UK-based clients.

With BPS bring on a growing number of brands across Africa, the team is expanded, with a Cape Town office opened.

The proprietary tech created by BPS was dubbed the “Location Bank”. The name sticks and BPS rebrands as Location Bank in a move that signals the importance of the tech platform.

Location Bank joins forces with Vicinity Media to bring two products to the market.

ADtrust is a world-first mobile-advertising tool that uses positive customer reviews managed by Location Bank within Vicinity Media’s best-of-breed location advertising.

Location Bank gains exclusive access to Vicinity Media’s Near Me digital endpoint, giving clients a new touchpoint with millions of local users.

Location Bank becomes an official Google My Business partner,

helping clients quickly & efficiently create successful, vertified GMB listings.

New hires bring the Location Bank staff complement up to 50.

With successful entry into the APAC region, Location Bank opens a Singapore office to serve these clients.
